BEST CURLING IRONS

The curling iron has long been a hair care tool staple. It was one of the first hot tools we use as we are growing up. Unfortunately, we have all had those awkward learning moments of trying to figure out how to navigate a curling iron to get that perfect look. While hopefully, those days are behind you, it can be a tricky skill to master.

WHAT SIZE CURLING IRON?

Size does matter when you are picking the perfect curling iron for you. Depending on the size of the barrel, it might create tiny spirals or bigger loose curls. We talked with Rene Fris, a celebrity stylist at Salon SCK in New York City, and he prefers to use one-inch curling irons to help create a beautiful beachy look. However, Fris recommends if you want tighter curls, you might want to choose a curling iron is three-quarters of an inch. The safest bet, Rene Fris says, is to select a one-inch curling iron because that works best with the most types of hair types and lengths.

If you have shorter hair, you might find it harder to work with some of the more innovative curlers. Those types of curlers will need more length because you won’t be able to bring it as close to your scalp. And if you do have shorter hair, consider buying some heat-resistant gloves as well, because trying to hold the shorter pieces close to the hot barrel could end up in you getting burned.

As you start your curling iron search, you might also notice that some curling irons have different shapes. Some are the classic round barrel curling irons, while others have different shapes to help you create a different texture and look. If you want to achieve classic curls or loose waves, you should opt for a straight, round barrel.

HOW TO PERFECTLY CURL YOUR HAIR

There are many different ways to curl your hair, but Rene Fris recommends that you go with the classic curl. First, use a styling cream that can help hold the curl without weighing down your look. Next, wrap your hair flat against the barrel. There should be no spaces between the hair and the barrel. Try to make it look like a ribbon.

Curl your hair for about 15 to 2- seconds, so it sets, but doesn’t cause heat damage. Release the curl into your palm, and let it settle there for a few seconds to allow for the classic curl to come out.
