Healthier Hair with René’s Two-Times-a-Week Routine
Healthy hair doesn’t come from more products — it comes from better habits. According to René, most people only need to wash their hair two to three times a week. Anything more can do more harm than good.
But — skipping washes entirely? That’s not the solution either.
“I see both extremes — those who overwash, and those who hardly wash at all,” René explains. “Both disrupt the hair’s natural balance. True care comes from respecting the biology of your hair.”
Why Overwashing Damages Hair
Each wash lifts the cuticle and strips away the scalp’s natural oils — essential for strength and flexibility. Over time, this can weaken the keratin structure, leading to dryness, frizz, and fewer good hair days.
“People often think oily hair means they need to wash more,” says René. “But frequent washing is exactly what can cause the scalp to overproduce oil.”
… And Why You Shouldn’t Skip Washing Altogether
The opposite approach — never washing — brings its own problems: buildup from sweat, styling products, and dead skin cells. This can irritate the scalp, leading to itchiness, inflammation, and in some cases, hair loss.
“Not washing doesn’t make your hair healthier,” René explains. “It leaves it weighed down, dull, and stressed. Our hair — like the rest of us — thrives on a natural rhythm.”
How to Wash Your Hair — The Right Way
1. Choose Gentle Formulas
René recommends shampoos and conditioners free from sulfates, silicones, and parabens. These preserve the hair’s natural structure and maintain essential moisture.
2. Focus on the Scalp
Healthy hair starts at the root. Massage shampoo gently into the scalp using your fingertips. Let the water cleanse the lengths naturally — no vigorous scrubbing needed.
3. Always Condition
Conditioner is essential. It seals the cuticle, restores hydration, and strengthens hair against everyday wear and heat. Not a luxury — a necessity.
What About Sweat and Workouts?
Of course, there are exceptions. If you sweat heavily, exercise often, or use substantial styling products, an extra wash now and then may be necessary. But the principle remains:
“It’s not about hitting a magic number,” René says. “It’s about understanding what your hair needs — and what it doesn’t.”
Two to three washes a week. No more. No less. Just right.
René’s philosophy — rooted in experience, biology, and a deep respect for hair’s natural state.
